1996 Chrysler Cirrus Driving Work Battery Light Came On Everything Dimmed Well

I was driving to work and my battery light came on and everything dimmed, well i just bought the battery Wednesday so I knew it was the alternator. I put a brand new one in, go to start the car, runs for a minute then the light comes back on and shortly after it will die. I'm stumped.
