My car won't start. It turns over but won't catch. There is plenty of gas. What could this be?

Have you checked for spark and fuel pressure? Do you hear the fuel pump run for one second after turning on the ignition switch?

Thank you and yes I hear the fuel pump running after turning on the ignition switch. I'm a women who lives alone in an appartment so i'm not sure what to do at this point. I don't want to have my car towed to a garage if this is something that can easily be fixed right in the parking lot. Thanks again for any advice you may have for me.

The two most common causes are a defective crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor. I can walk you through a test procedure if you have a test light or digital voltmeter.
