this has happened twice. once 6 months ago, i was leaving work and cranked my truck, backed up, put in drive and started forward and it kinda purged and died. fired it back up again and same thing. tightened the battery cables (which were loose) but there was a lot of heat from the back of the battery. it did fine until this week and the same thing. cranked fine, backed up, started forward, it purged and died. this happened twice. checked the battery cables again, they were still tight, but it started running fine after that.

Hello,

Given the nature of how random or intermittent this issue is, it could be due to a number of reasons.
Was there anything unusual on those 2 occasions? Was it parked in a certain way like uphill or was it too hot or too cold etc.

This could be due to a faulty crank position sensor. The crank sensors send the crankshaft rotation info to the ECM. When the crank sensor loses its calibration due to heat and vibration, it will send faulty data to the ECM. That can trigger a shut down.

Let me know any other details that you can think of.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
