power assist is gone

i have a 1996 chevy s10 and the power assist on the brakes went out i think i have narrowed it down to a vacume problembut not sure if i am right when i push on the brakeit makes a sound like air going through a pipe

Its located right behind the brake master cylinder where you put brake fluid in-its the round thingy that has a vacuum hose on it-
