171000 mile original drive train, no overhaul. Transmission problems, sluggish to engage from standstill or at low speeds. Once 2000 rpm is reached, no problems. We know there is a vacuum leak, and o2 sensors need to be replaced.

sounds like the trans is on its way out.

change oil and filter in trans and see what happens.
