1996 Chevrolet Express Heat Cold Tempature Shows Car Running Temp 260 Over

the heat is cold but the tempature shows my car running at the temp of 260. the car is not over heating. Please help.

car is overheating at 260. check coolant, thermostat and make sure you did not damage the head gasket
