Cranks and won't start for an extended length of time? Pull the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line and check for liquid there. Residual fuel rail pressure will push it's way past a defective diaphragm into the intake system, the result is a long crank, and possibly some smoke or fuel smell when it does start.
