NTB told me the strut retaining nut is cross-threaded and the spindle needed to be replaced! I installed the struts and hand started the nut and turned it down until the nut was tight on the cartridge be for using the tool!

It has a torque spec. It is not a matter of how far down.

Did you replace the cross threaded strut? You have to as it will not hold the spring that way.

I do not believe it is cross threaded! They were saying it was because they could see threads and he told me the nut part that the spanner wrench fits on should be tight to the cartridge tube!

Ok, what is your actual question? If it is not cross threaded, tighten it to 49 lbs. Is there any other issue?

Is it 49 lbs. My book says 82 lbs. I have about 1 1/2 threads showing and its tight. The mechanic at National Tire and Battery told me it was cross threaded because it is not all the way down!
