When I warm my car in the morning the temp guage is in the middle but my heat is not blowing warm air. When I drive the car the temp gauge goes to the red for a few minutes and then goes back to normal and the heat begins to work properly what do you think may be the cause of this?

Low coolant level comes to mind, dont have the temp in the red, the engine could sustain some severe damage
