Car not Move in drive position

I have audi a41996 this what I have to do is put the ship in 1 when the car move over 10 miles. I put back the in d position in the car work normally some friend say this is neutral safety s what problem do you think I have, thanks for you help

Check transmission fluid level and condition. It should be red or pink and not smell burned. Have the pressure tested. You can rent or borrow a gauge for that. Scan it for hard and soft codes.
