ABS light showing on dashboard

Whirring noise (fan?) from under the bonnet seems to come from ABS Control Unit, even when engine switched off. Disconnected battery overnight to avoid draining it with (possible) fan running. Stopped once battery disconnected. No other problems - braking normal, no other noises.

could be the relay stuck on.

ABS on means it's not working. you just have normal brakes.

Thanks for that. So how do I check that it's the relay? You're talking to a non-mechanic here by the way. What's the step-by-step to check that?
