i am getting noises from the transmission extension housing.

Car sat for about 2 months, and when I returned there was a pool of trans fluid on the floor. The drip was coming from the trans speed sensor, so I replaced it and the fluid that was lost. now I get a grinding noise coming from that area. I replaced the u-joints, and it did nothing. Now with the car on jack stands and in neutral its clear that its coming from the extension housing. What could this be? It gets faster or slower with the cars speed. It is not gear specific, it does it all the time. What could this be?

Try removing the extension housing and investigate what's going on
