When I turn the key there is no resitance but all of the gages and lights come on. I was told the ignition switch had gone out but i can not figure out what tools to use or how to remove the piece without breaking it

Disconnect battery negative cable. Place lock cylinder in RUN position. Through hole in lower shroud, depress retaining tab and remove lock cylinder.
Remove upper and lower column shrouds from column. Disconnect electrical connectors from ignition switch. Using a No. 10 Torx bit, remove ignition switch mounting screw. Depress retaining tabs and pull ignition switch from steering column.
