We don't get involved with costs here because there's way too many variables. How soon a strut must be replaced depends on what's wrong with it. I have the same part number on my '88 Grand Caravan that has been making a rattling noise for two years and I just live with it. The oil leaked out of it a long time ago and the front end does bounce a little.
Struts are normally replaced in pairs because if one is leaking or worn out, the other one is the same age and will do the same thing shortly. When either one is replaced the car will need an alignment because the lower mounting point is one of the critical adjustments.
