The temperature gauge reaches three quarters of the way up close to Hot. Have replaced fan relay, thermostat and engine cooling temperature sensor. The fan turns on when I apply 12 volts.

Hi,

That is when it should turn on. Actually, 223 degrees F is the temperature indicated by the manufacturer. If it is turning on at 222F, that is normal operation.

Take a look below. Let me know if this answers your concerns.

Take care,

Joe

Is it normal for the temperature gauge to go 3/4 of the way up until the cooling fan starts or is there something wrong with the temperature gauge? If the temperature gauge is not working properly what can be done to fix it?

Hi,

It really isn't out of the ordinary for the gauge to pass the midpoint before it turns on. As long as it isn't going any further than you mentioned, it is likely normal.

When the fan does turn on, does the gauge drop indicating the engine is cooling?

Let me know.

Hi, yes, the temperature gauge does go down to a little over the middle of the gauge. Thank you for your help.

I feel it is working as it should. There could be a resistance issue in the sensor wire causing the gauge to be off a bit. Other than that, it sounds like it is working properly.

If anything changes, let me know.

Take care,

Joe
