Have your battery checked, most auto places do this for free and have your starter checked for draw or it may have a bad solenoid on it which in your casewold mean another starter.

Have your cables checked for corrosion then, if the terminals were cleaned it could effect your battery condition from lack of care. The solenoid sits atop the starter.

When was the last time you checked your oil? This car sat you said so it may be from driving it it got burnt up or had a lot of fuel in it and when it warmed up the feul /watervapor evaporated. That is quite common. Next time if you can do this hit the starter body with a hammer if it starts then the starter is bad.

If you drive short distances like under 10 miles it gets fuel and condensation in the engine. Then if you drive over tht distance the engineheats up and boils the stuff from the crankcase and like I said before how long ago was it before you even checked your oil? Most people just gas up and go and don't bother with anything else as well as only changine their oil once a year if that. I have no idea how you treat your vehicle. Hard telling wher ethe oil went, a car that is 15 yrs old could possibly use 1 qt of oil in 1000 miles which would be far more than normal. Most auto makers wont' do a oil usuage ntil you are usingmore oil than that. So 3000 miles could use up 3 qts of oil not saying it did. But it reverts back to the question of when was the last time you checked your oil? And from your description i'd say it had been a while becuse you only bothered to check it when the idiot light cameon the dash.

The starters depend on the rebuilder whether you get a good one or not. As well as battery condition, size etc. And whether they have good clean terminals. As far as the oil goes check ti every 2 weeks or so, keep an eye on things that is just good maintainence.
