smoke is coming up through my console gearbox and every thing is vibrating under the hood what's this?

every once in a while, while i am driving it seems like the car begins to oppose the accelerating peddle command for speed; for example sometime it will not go to a higher accelerating if i press the gas pedal.

insight please.
