A couple years ago my transmission quit shifting automatically so I shifted it to drive manually.
Now if I start driving with the transmission shift lever showing drive it stays in low and red lines the tach at a low speed.

have a trans guy look at this , have him scan it and then check the govenor it may be stuck or maybe the valve body is messed up. or you can do this and get back to us with the code/s and see if it's electronically but I don't think so.
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Wait 5 seconds. Turn ignition switch to ACC. Set OD switch in ON position. Move selector lever to "P" position. Turn ignition switch to ON position. OD OFF light should come on for 2 seconds.
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Turn ignition switch to ACC position. Move selector lever to "D" position. Set OD control switch to OFF position. Wait 2 seconds (minimum) after ignition switch is ON. Move selector position lever to "2" position. Set OD control switch in ON position.
Move selector lever to "1" position. Set OD switch in OFF. Depress accelerator pedal to floor and release pedal. Record A/T CHECK indicator light flashes. Where the LONG light flash appears in the flash sequence (1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.) indicates the code
