Why does my 1995 Nissan Maxima Shutter when I press the gas or stop at a light?

if it is shaking from side to side when taking off hard and stoping hard then it sounds like drive axls.

No,it's not doing that. It's more like a stutter and when I'm at a light it feels more like a lunge

if the engines free reving when it does this, it sounds like the trans is disengaging.check the fluid and make sure its full im not sure if it has a filter you can service but i do no you can have it flushed,might help. p.s we are talking about an automatic?
