if there is no compression does it mean the engine is shot?

my daughters sable just recently she has been having to add water and maybe a little bit of oil when going anywhere more than 20 miles or so. Her boyfriend was driving last week and it caught on fire. Now there is no compression in the vehicle. Does that mean that the engine is shot? And what could have caused such a thing to happen it is a very good running vehicle before this.

So does that usually mean that the engine is now shot. And in your opinion what could have caused it to catch fire like that there was no other signs before this happened that would have pointed in that direction at all. besides having to add a little water now and then (just in the last week or so) it never overheated and she never had any kind of mechanical issues with the vehicle ever.

If I was to guess I would same somebody overheated it until it just would run any more and yes the engine is likely shot.
