When I turn the ignition to shut the car off, I can pull the key out of the ignition and the car is still running. I had to disconnect the battery to shut the car off. What is wrong and how do I fix it. This is my first car. My mom knows nothing about cars and there is no adult male in the picture to help.

It sounds like the ignition switch has failed.
I would shop around for an estimate for this repair as unless you are experienced at this type of repair, I would let a shop do this for you.
