when I start it the idle shoots up to 2000rpms. When I engage the clutch to shift it kicks down to 1000-150000 rpms. It also stays high when I'm driving. Just recently had the head gasket replaced. Also had radiator and thermostat replaced about the same time. Could this be affecting it?

I would begin by checking for vacuum leaks. I've attached 2 vacuum routing diagrams. The first is for the 2.5L, the second is for the 4.0L as you didn't specify which engine your Jeep has.
