I have been told that the camshaft is broken on my girlfriends car. I was driving it when it stopped, and it seemed like either the fuel pump or the timing chain. The place where we took it (who knows nothing about Jaguars) said the camshaft is broken. We called the Jaguar dealer, and they said they never heard of that on that car, though anything could be possible.

If it is broken, what could be a reason that could happen? The guy at the repair should it could be because of the oil pump. We drove all the way to Sweden, from Norway, and back, with no problem at all. The next day, I drove a short distance, and it stopped. I got it started once, and immediately moved it off the road. It didn't move by being driven after that. Can you tell me if the mechanic could be right, and also what could have caused that? I need to know if that could be the case before I authorize him to do any work? I would appreciate your expertise. Thank you.

Since you got it restarted to move it from the road, I don't think the cam is broken. To be honest, in 30+ years of working on cars, I have never see one break. When it restarted to move it from the road, was the engine rapping? A broken cam would make a lot of noise.
