vp commodore vibration sound

95 VP commodore wagon a vibration sound from rear of car at speeds of around 100kmh sounds a bit like running over rumble strips, noise will go when play with accelerator and return when accelerate again.
A mechanic yesterday said that uni joints are ok.

This is sounding like a diff problem, wheel bearings will not alter under load like this, you can make the diff sing with throttle action if it is worn.
