what is the correct procedure for installing a distributor shaft for a 95 GMC safari 4.3L

i changed the timing chain and gears, but it stii would not start, i done what the manual said and lined up the gears like it said, got the #4 at tdc and the marks are correct on both gears. i removed the distributor cuz i thought it was in the wrong place, but now i am stuck

it should be installed at #1 not #4 here is apic for you.
