car hesitating on low speed acceleration

Fuel pump?95 Geo metro 1.3 auto car was hesitating on low speed acceleration yesterday. This morning the car wont start, cranked normal with jump and not firing up. I smelled fuel during cranking, I then changed the fuel filter, and tried jump again, with no luck.

Last thing done was the fuel filter change,
Battery is bad but will crank well with a jump, smelling gas during crank, wont start up
Hesitated last few days during low speed acceleration

Have the fuel pressure checked if okay-check for injection pulses and look for an ignition spark
