Leaking out of the front inspection cover and the transfer case is overflowing. Shifts fine when there's the proper fluid level. Filter pan cover is intact, no leaks there. Truck hasn't been worked hard, minimal towing. 4X4 diesel in Alaska. Probably multiple seals involved. Do tranny shops service just seals, or am I looking at a rebuilt unit, with this type of mileage? Thanks.

I don't think you need a new trans. Here is what I feel is the problem. Where the transmission and transfer case come together, there is a seal that seperates them. If that seal is bad, the trans fluid will go into the transfer case. That is why it is overfull. As the leak at the front, the front seal sounds like it is bad.

If the transmission is still shifting properly, it is fine. However, to access the rear seal, the transfer case has to come out and the front seal requires the transmission to be removed. You are looking at 20 dollars worth of parts + fluid replacement, and a lot of labor to remove the parts. If the transmission is still shifting properly, don't replace it.
