My airbag dashboard light just began blinking. What does it mean?

Tonight the airbag dash light just began blinking . My concern is that gthe airbag will deploy without an acident and inadvertantly CAUSE one. I want to know if this is a message to get the system checked or is it an ominous warning?

it is a message of a failure. a shop with a scanner can pull the code and track down the failure.
