I'm rebuilding. The original oil pump which meets specs is a very tight fit onto the new crankshaft. I AM aligning flats but the flanges on the oil pump are catching that little lip or ridge around the crank snout. Should I just drive it on with mallet?

If you drive it on you will break the pump gears. See if the chamfer of the inner gear is facing the cast iron cover if not it shoul be. You may have to clean teh crank ridge a tad.

Yes they are - I wound up gently filing the 3 outer flanges just slighty and I worked - I appreciate your insight, thank you
