I'm restoring a 95 Dodge Intrepid that was wrecked. I've done a thorough inspection for any loose connections, changed the ignition switch, and swapped out the driver side door that was damaged when it was wrecked. The car wont start though. What would cause this?

If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it, while you visually check for spark at the plugs. If you have spark everywhere, use a gage and check fuel pressure. Any applicable mil codes? Do the dash lites come on when you turn on the key?

It wont even crank. Ive been told that this model of car has an anti-theft killswitch... I'm just wondering if that could be the problem and what i would need to do to fix it. As for the dummy lights they work but none are active.

I don't believe the factory security system has any control on the starter circuit? There may be more than one type Intrepid? The starter info I looked at doesn't show the security system has any control on the starter circuit.

The car has been sitting for about 5 years. Do you think the starter would go bad in that long?

Does the battery have a full charge and all connections clean and tight? If a vehicle sits that long, sometimes the gremlins get at the wiring circuits, they like to chew. Some of the national brand autostores will test the starter for you, if you take it to them. With the headlamps on, turn the key to crank, how do the headlamps react? If they go out or almost, the problem is usually the battery or cables. If they stay bright, no reaction, there may be an open circuit to the starter.
