I turned the motor over while the distributor was out and now it seems to be out of time

Because it has no power,would this have messed the timing up. I replaced the distributor with a new one but accidentally turned the motor over while the distributor was removed,the distributor will only line up with the cam one way but could that still have messed the ignition timing up anyway ?

How do I fix this ? can I line up marks on the cam pulleys and how would they need to be aligned ? Also would like to know if number 1 cylinder is in the back bank of the motor in the front where thee belts are ?

Remove the distributor -Put the engine no.1 piston on its compression stroke/TDC and re-install the distributor making sure the rotor is pointing to no.1 cap tower and the crankshaft markings at 0/TDC
