1995 Chevrolet Truck 4 x 4

My 4X4 wheel indicator light turns on when I engage the 4 x 4, but it used too light up front and back, but know it only lights up in the front area, I have check the bulb and it works. What I don't know if my 4X 4 is working properly and if it is how do I fix the light.
