My 1995 Chevy Lumina will not run properly. The engine idles fine, but when put into gear it makes a buzzing noise and after accelerating will slip gears. The Lumina then has to be turned off completely and restarted after sitting for a few seconds to even get it to engage into a gear. What would cause this, and is it going to be expensive to fix/replace?

Sounds like you have transmission issues i would check the fluid level and condition of the fluid. Then i would see what codes you have.Do you have a 16 pin or a 12 pin diagnostic connector to hook the scanner up too?
