Why would I get oil on #1 cyl plug

#1 cyclinder has oil on it and the top of piston has oil on it. It sounds like the rod is knocking real loud. Took oil pan off and really cant see what problem is and suggestions

Could be coming from the valves or rings-get a compression check to determine where its leaking at-
