I have a 95 chevy camaro Z28 LT1. I cannot get the engine to start after it has warmed up and then I shut it off and try and re start. When I try and re start it will turn over for a quick second then I hear a whining sound. Sounds like it is coming from the starter coil. Replaced the batter checked the starter with a volt meter and it was fine. I don't know what else it can be. Any help. Maybe bad ground somewhere? Also, I am able to push start it no problem. Yet starter is checking out using the volt meter

sounds like your soleniod or bendix(gear drive) is failing. they can be replaced seperately. do the bendix first.

i agree with fixitmr but i personally would replace the selonoid first as that is what controls the bendix. When the selonoid gets hot it either robs all power (grounds out) and will not even turn motor over or does not have the magnatism to engage bendix.

appreciate your replys. I put a new starter in and when we connected the neg battery term to the btry the car tried starting up on its own. This is a 6 speed MANUAL trans in 1st so that should not have happened. put the old starter on and had no probs except for it not wanting to start up after it has been run for a bit. I can push start the thing and it starts up when warm but if I try and start it with the key, no joy. had the autoparts store test the starter that I bought and it was fine. I've got some grimlins in this car. I love it but it's driving me crazy.

forgot to mention that we put a new battery in the car and dried starting it up and when you look at the battery charge gauge on the dash and turn the key to start the volt meter on the dash drops to what looks like zero.

starter does draw lots of juice! but as to bad ground, why only when hot? the whining sound you describe is either rollers in bendix slipping or bendix turning without engaging flywheel. toss up on which to change first.
