1995 Chevrolet Camaro fuel pump

I cut a trap door in my 95 camaro to change fuel pump. Everything went fine until I noticed the fuel gauge was reading too high because there was only a small amount of fuel in there. The float was hanging on something, I can't get it in the tank so the float in hanging free

Can you see what is holding it? Do you have enough access to install it or are you fighting to get it in? It should just drop into the tank.

This is why the fuel tank is removed to replace the pump. This may be one of the hardest vehicles to remove the tank but that doesn't make it any less necessary. When you hack up the car like that, because of the large gap between the floor and the tank, you don't have the space to properly rotate the pump and float in without damaging it.
