I suspect the engine has a leaking exhaust manifold

When the engine is first started I suspect the noise I hear is a leak from the exhaust manifold. However after a short while the noise is silent.

See if you have any loose or broken bolts holding the manifold on also look for black carbon showing signs off exhaust going around the manifold. Thats where i would start.

no spray but look for smoke when you start it to narrow down the leak.

you can get someone to close off the exhaust out the back with a rag for a minute to force the leak as well.

With the spray your thinking of looking for a vaccuum leqk not exhaust leak.
