I DON'T KNOW WHETHER YOU HAVE A 3.1L OR A 3.8L (DON'T MATTER) I INVESTIGATED BOTH, BOTH HAVE A TIMING CHAIN. NOT A BELT

SOUNDS LIKE THE TIMING CHAIN IS RATTLING--THIS IS NORMAL TO AN EXTENT ON A WORN ENGINE. IF IT REALLY SOUNDS EXCESSIVE, GET ANOTHER OPINION, FROM A SMALL SHOP, EVEN AN AUTO SALVAGE GUY MIGHT GIVE YOU A FREE OPINION. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOUR ENGINE, ON MY JEEP CJ 5 258 6 CYL, IT'S NOT REAL HARD TO REPLACE. JUST GETTING MOTIVATED IS MY PROBLEM!
