What is the temp reading? Does the fan run? Where applicable, does the overflow bottle fill up in a hurry?

I do not have an actual reading just a gauge that usually runs between 3/4 and the hot (red line). Fan does kick in, but, I thought it should be running around 1/2 on temp gauge considering the cold weather.
As far a the overflow, it's nothing out of the normal.

When the fan kicks in, does the temp drop? If your fully obd 1, check mil codes. Does the fan kick on when you turn on ac? I would want to know actual temp reading, using something other than your gage, to compare readings. Overheating is a boil-over, it will pop the radiator cap and the catch bottle will fill up in a hurry. Just for testing, if you remove the thermostat, hook everything back up and test drive, any effect on the temp reading?

Some possibilities, water pump-- coolant temp sensor-- clogged coolant passage-- radiator cap-- combustion gases getting into the coolant-- fans not working like they should.
