I am hearing a noise in the engine compartment of the car. Everything appears to be off on the inside of the car. In 8 hours the battery will be dead.

A bad alt could make noise. Also, does this happen when the engine is off or running? If off, check for electrical draw. Our homepage under the DIY section has directions. Also, check alt output to make sure it is producing. If it is and there is no power to the battery from the alt, check the fuseable link between the alt and battery.

Audi & VW like to use auxiliary electric water pumps that
circulate coolant after the engine is shut off. This prevents
hot spots from forming. Protecting the cylinder head, heater
core & radiator.

So it could be that.

There's a temperature sensor & relay that controls this operation.
