It will crank fine but after a few minutes it runs hot then shuts down

If you are running that engine until it gets hot enough to quite, you have probably already ruined the motor. The T-stat is at the end of the lower radiator hose.

Overheated an engine severely even once can do severe internal damage.

You need to have the car looked at. I have no idea hot how you actually got the car or if heat was even the reason it died.

It was running hot it has a leak in the radiator. We found it to day my daughter hit a rutt and busted something so water is pouring out the bottom of radator
