I have a 1994 Volvo 850 turbo, it acts like it wants to stall, it showed no signs of overheating, the overflow tank has been leaking, could it be a head gasket issue?

It could be many things. Something as simple as a vacuum leak could cause the engine to stall. If you want, with the engine cold, open the radiator cap and start the engine. If coolant shoots out, there is a headgasket problem.
