i just rebuilt the engine in a 1994 toyota pick up. had the head reworked and a valve job done. now that everything is back together, i am having a very hard time getting the truck dialed in. it was running rich on fuel, (black suet coming out of exhaust.) and idel was low. i increased air flow by opening the air duct , after the air breather and it started running much better with a small increase on air intake. my question is, what would be the most common causes of this? i am pretty sure i have all the vacuum hoses on correct and i can find any vac leaks. as a matter of fact, i had a massive vac leak on the intake manifold. once i repaired that, is when i had the problem with it running like this.

recheck everything you did and check your fuel pressure with a gauge it amy be to high. auto parts rent them. I am sending a vacuum diagram for an automatic as you didn't say what trans you have and if it is California emission it is different as well.
