I have noticed a oil smell that seems to be coming from the heater. The heater also slows down when braking and now today I noticed the heater is not producing much heat while idling. I have no problems with the engine temperature.

First, make sure the coolant level is clean and full. Next, it is normal for the fan to slow slightly when stopped. The alternator isn't spinning as fast. Finally, have you checked for oil leaks under the hood?

Let me know.
