Hi there,

I have a Toyota Hilux Surf V6 1994 (4 Runner), the aerial motor is not working when it is plugged in (it was working well a few weeks ago), I have taken the motor out and tested the motor on the truck battery and works fine, the aerial moves in and out ok, when I plug it back in to the aerial terminals it does not work with radio on or off and also with starting the vehicle, please help, thank you kindly

Best Regards

Have you checked to see if there is power to the motor? Is the wiring in good condition and not corroded?

First check for a blown fuse. Next, measure the voltages at the motor connector. If it's the same as most other cars, there will be three wires. One will have 12 volts all the time. One will read very low resistance to ground. That's the ground wire. The third one should have 12 volts when the ignition switch and the radio are turned on, and 0 volts when either one is turned off. That's the "up" signal wire.

There will be a relay too but that could be built into the radio. It is somewhat common to find broken solder connections inside the radio on that relay. The next most likely suspect would be a corroded ground wire at the motor.
