transmission is slipping in reverse

Hi I have a 94 subaru legacy station wagon, it has an auto transmission and when I put it in reverse it revs up and goes no where but sometimes it will work fine, any ideas?

have a trans guy check this if it's full of luid. you probably have a bad seal or clutch.
