Does this happen only with the engine running or both running and off?

Does the stick move? Or is it stuck in one position? Have someone look under the hood at the shift linkage as someone else moves the stick shift. A portion of the linkage appears to have broken or become disconnected.

Just to add to this one after you look under the hood for disconnected cables at the transmission.Look under the center console at the base of the shifter most likely the cable closest to the driver has broken loose. If it has i have the fix for it let me know what you find. Some of the fixes out there just dont work i know the one that works great.
