what would cause the drive alxe boot to pop?

we just replaced the cv joint and the cv alxe and went to back out of the drive way to take it for a test drive and the boot popped when we were backing out.. we were just curious to why that would happen?

What do you mean by the "boot popped"? The boot is just a rubber cover over a mechanical joint. What exactly came separated?
