Was the new steering column a direct plug-in for electricals, you didn't have to do any wiring? No blown fuses? Also, do you have a security system on this vehicle?
If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the spark plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Engine cranking, check fuel injector pulse.
If starter motor won't crank, check starter wiring circuits. No shift interlock issues?
