When starting it will run as long as you hold the gas, but as soon as you remove your foot from the gas idle goes completely down and shuts off. While running revving up it will only go to 3000 rpms but no higher. Have tried changing idle positioning sensor and fuel filter. Still has the same problem tho. While holding the gas and running it makes a popping noise like it is sucking air, but doesn't do it all the time this is while revving it. The car set for about 4 years. Please help.

For the backfiring I'd start with new spark plugs and wires.

Most likely the battery was disconnected or ran down. If so, the Engine Computer lost its memory and has to relearn "minimum throttle" before it will know when it must be in control of idle speed. It also might not give you the normal "idle flare-up" to 1500 rpm when you start the engine. To meet the conditions for the relearn to take place, drive at highway speed with the engine warmed up, then coast for at least seven seconds without touching the brake or gas pedals.
